Instagram Selling
Instagram Selling: People only buy items when they think the item will bring them more value than they paid for it. This means you always have to make your buyer feel as if they are getting a good deal. Additionally, people usually buy items out of emotions, not logical decisions. This means you must express to your buyer the positive emotions and benefits they will get out of the purchase.
Here are messages you might get and what I would respond to them:
Buyer: “I’ll lyk”
Response: “Sure take your time bro but just lmk ASAP because I have multiple people all interested in this item and want to make sure you have a chance at buying this”
Buyer: “I’m not sure if it will fit”
Reponse: “What is your go to size?”
Buyer: Will say their size
Response as long as the shoe is within ½ of their size: “Honestly I am almost certain these will fit you”
Response if the shoe is a full size away: “Honestly it might be a bit (big or snug) but I can tell you are very interested in these shoes so maybe you want to try them anyways”
Buyer: “I get paid next week can you hold them for me until then?”
Response: “For me to hold an item I need a 20% down payment. This lets me for sure know you are not going to flake”
Buyer: “I will pay you when I get the shoes in hand”
Response: “I understand your concerns but I want you to know I am not going to put this much effort into my business for me to just ruin it by scamming someone for a few bucks.”
Flaking On People: At some point while reselling, you are going to buy an item, sell it, then a few days later before you ship it out, it will go up $100+ in value. What you are going to want to do is refund your buyer, and sell the item to someone else for the extra $100+ profit. I am here to tell you to not do that. Business 101 is a deal is a deal, when you make a deal with someone, you always stick to it. I will admit, in the past I have flaked on people a couple times to make a few extra dollars and I absolutely regret it. Not only is it not ethically right, but you also feel terrible doing it. This same thing goes with when you are buying something. If you agree to pay a price to someone, you better pay it, no matter what happens.
Shipping: There are obviously tons of places you can get labels from but I find PayPal to be the easiest and their labels are cheaper than if you were to buy them in store. Go to this link and login: https://www.paypal.com/shiplabel/create. Always ship USPS and if the package is over 1 lb do priority mail and if it is less than 1 lb do first class mail. With boxes I would always save the box to any package that comes to your house. This alone will give you all the boxes you need to run your business but if for some reason you are out, USPS has free boxes in store. They are a bit awkward for shoes though so you will either have to cut them up and use the cardboard to make your own box if you do not have padding for the gaps in the box. Worst case, just go to Home Depot or something and buy boxes there.
