Instagram Basics

Username: This is one of the most crucial parts of your entire account. I am very strict with the rules I follow when making a username: No dots or underscores, 3 or less short words, extremely simple and easy to remember (I would stay away from using numbers because it is a lot easier for people to remember a couple simple words than words + a few numbers), and make the name have at least one word related to reselling (for me it is “drops”). People may see an item they want to buy on your page, but then they have to go do something for a second and when they come back they can’t remember your username because it was too complicated. Use my username as an example (@summitdrops). There are no dots, underscores, etc. There are 2 words and it is extremely simple and easy to remember. Plus there are no numbers.

Logo: Your logo should be unique but simple at the same time. It should be something where if people see it, they know exactly who you are. For reselling, this is your profile picture so I would almost always have it be your account name. I would recommend looking through a bunch of reseller’s logos, seeing what you like, then finding someone to bring your idea to life. My guy is @kicksspectrum and he does amazing logos but he is pricey and may not be the best option for beginners.

Bio: Your bio is another one of the most important parts of your page. It shows your customers who you are, what you are, and what you represent. This is how I structure mine: check story, who you are, dm to purchase, payment methods you accept, and refs.

Ref Post: Your ref post should ALWAYS be the very first post on your page. For the picture, I just made ,mine on canva.com but you can use whatever you want, just make it so people know that is your ref post. For the caption, you want to say something like “Please leave a reference below if we have done any business“ and then right under that put your policies. I will just give you mine to use: I am not responsible for any faults of the shipping company. Once the item is out of my hands it is out of my control. No refunds/returns unless an item comes not as described or the item is proven to be fake.

Clean Feed: You want the background of your posts to be the exact same every time. Find a spot in your house, yard, etc. that you want your posts to look like, and stick to it. Try to make sure you can find a spot with good lighting that doesn’t change throughout the day. Look at beginning posts on my feed for what not to do and everything else for what to do. In my beginning posts, the lighting was always different and it just didn’t look clean. My best three words for your feed are just make it clean, simple, and consistent. People ask me all the time how I make my lighting look so good and to be honest, it is literally just a simple picture on my kitchen floor with my IPhone. Look around your house and test different spots until you find the perfect place.

Post Captions: Your post captions should be clean, simple, and to the point. This is what I would stick to: item name, condition, OG all? (say what’s missing if not), price, some sort of “dm to purchase”, comment offers

Engagement Groups: These are group chats where you like and comment on each other’s posts. Join as many of these as you can. Some people are against these groups but I am totally for them. The more likes/comments you get on your posts, the better shot you have at hitting the explore page and reaching more people.

Stories: Post as many stories as you can for maximum story views. The more people that see your story, the more people you have to sell items to. I have found the sweet spot to be 7-10 stories a day. People love tapping through story sales so do these as much as you can. Story sales are when you post a bunch of items for sale on your story. Also, be kind of personal on your story. Share your kicks of the day, favorite supreme item you own, and things like that. Don’t become a full time vlogger, just have some sort of connection with your followers and build trust. People are more willing to purchase something with brands that they either relate to or trust. Another tip I have is you can copy and paste hashtags and make them really small so people cannot see them. This will get you a pretty good amount of extra story views and maybe a few more buyers for your items. It takes about 10 seconds to do so you might as well try it and see if it works. I found this video a while back and it has a few other good tips for your stories and instagram in general: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGgy9-TAZZQ

Accounts To Follow: There are a lot of useful accounts that you should follow to get to know resell information. These accounts tell you all drop leaks, retail prices, resell estimations, etc. I would follow all of these accounts: @resellology @how.to.cop @dropsbyjay @supcommunity @supreme_leaks_news. I would also follow as many resellers you can because when you scroll through your feed/story you will see tons of items for sale.
